Mount Hope feeding scheme came about after assessing the high unemployment rate in the area. Parents were unable to provide for their families, and kids went to school without food.
In 1994 we started with a soup kitchen in Heinz Park and provided a cooked meal on the availability of the ingredients. Most of the ingredients was supplied by our congregants and at a later stage we started approaching shops, butchers and corporate for assistance.
We are currently feeding over 150 kids that attend the schools in the surrounding areas. We also feed +/- 30 in clients at our drug recovery homes (men & ladies) daily. This includes breakfast, lunch and supper. Our current supplies are from Feedback, Pick n Pay, Checkers, Shoprite and Woolworths.
All our helpers are volunteers from the area.
